Ogre Tyrants

Barbarian Ogres

by Avian

This unit was actually something I thought up by myself, and it is something I felt would fit in well with a more backward-themed Ogre list. I thought the Ogres, as presented in the army book was a bit too high-tech, what with their gunpower weapons, ironfists and armour, thus this idea for more primitive Ogres, exposed to the more high-tech Warhammer world. I wanted to make them somewhat like the old Madboyz of the 2nd edition of Warhammer 40,000, and distinct from Savage Orcs. Thus instead of just giving them Frenzy, I thought the combination of Stupidity and Hatred of everybody else.

Barbarian Ogres - Core unit

In between the towering Mountains of Mourn, there are many secluded valleys, where live tribes of Ogres that have been barely touched by civilization. It would be an exaggeration to call even the most cultured Ogre particularly civilized, but amongst the barbarian Ogres, even hammering sharp pieces of rock into your club is regarded as suspiciously sophisticated. These tribes know nothing of metal, use weapons made exclusively of wood, stone and bone and protect their guts with the skulls of great beasts or even with great slabs of stone tied in place with leather straps. Rarely venturing far from their home valley, barbarian Ogres tend to limit themselves to jumping out from hiding places and clubbing unwary travellers to death. With Ogre tribes becoming increasinly restless, many smaller tribes of barbarian Ogres have been conquered by their more technologically advances relatives. Used only to the scarcely-inhabited mountains, barbarian Ogres often react with confusion and dread to the thronged and noisy battlefields they are pressed onto. Sometimes this results in the barbarian Ogres fleeing in Panic, while other times they have been known to tear into the enemy with savage fury, seeing them as the cause of all their current misery.
